It’s a different time in the world, isn’t it?
We are certainly being called to make some major shifts. How are you feeling and how has the Corona virus effected you and your community?
We are also being called to love ourselves, each other and our planet. In times like these, we are being reminded what truly matters most and that we all are so deeply connected.
What we do has always had a ripple effect on others, and now we are seeing that more than ever.
When you wash your hands, you’re hopefully preventing passing around the virus. When you stay home you are hopefully preventing catching it. When you choose to be cautious and make preparations, without hoarding and panicking, you are creating some stability for yourself and for your family.
When you find a way to relax and take a break from worrying, you are creating a moment of peace that can be felt by those around you.
When you do things that are good for your body, mind and spirit – like eating well, resting, and getting sleep – you will feel better, which will help you keep your immune system working and your mind feeling centered and clear.
Even when things feel out of our control, we have choices on how we manage and handle the situation.
Fear keeps us in a state of constriction. When we are in a fearful state, it’s very hard to calm down. It’s hard to problem solve and see things from a new perspective. It’s hard to do much of anything except feel overwhelmed, scared and stressed.
“Love is the doorway to oneness with all things and being in harmony with the entire universe.” ~ Ram Dass
We are being called to be kind, to serve, to tend to and take care of, to slow down, to connect, to listen, to heal, to surrender, to create, to be present and to love unconditionally and deeply.
To do that we must work together. We must start with ourselves, first. Then our family. Then our community. Then our world.
As we face this time in our history, we have an opportunity to become more conscious and loving.
So how do we move through these changes in a conscious and loving way?
1) Stay connected to community.
Even when you are staying home, you can find ways to stay connected. FaceTime with your friends and family. Use the Marco Polo app to send video chats. Find a Facebook group you can trust and rely on. We are active in my Mindful Mama Movement group and you can join us here. It’s nice to have a safe place where you can share your feelings, ideas and resources.
2) Quiet your mind.
Sit in stillness. Connect with your breath. Even if you don’t have an interest in meditation, you will benefit greatly from taking just a minute or two each day to quiet your mind. Place your hands to your heart, close down your eyes and breathe. Just touching your heart and focusing on your breath will have a calming effect over your entire being.
3) Open your grateful heart.
Ask yourself each day, What do I feel most grateful for in this moment?. Even in the midst of the chaos in the world, you can find many things to be grateful for. This is a great practice to share with your family. You will find the fear dissipate when you bring your attention to gratitude.
4) Set an intention for the day.
Every morning before your busy mind revs up, ask yourself, What do I need most today? Let whatever thoughts and feelings rise and give them a moment to be heard. Then ask yourself, How can I serve others during this time of need?
Let the answers to these two questions be your intentions for the day. It will give your mind something to focus on and when you have a focus, you’ll feel more in control and less anxious.
5) Keep Moving
Our regular schedules and rhythms are getting so thrown off. Maybe you’re working from home, or have more time with your kids all day. Maybe you’re worried about your job or feeling paralyzed about all the unknowns.
Do what you can to get your body moving. Do Yoga with Adrienne or Cosmic Yoga with the kids. Get out for nature hikes. Dance parties are a huge hit in our home. (Especially to this song haha – for all you Chiefs fans.)
Movement will help you get out of your worrying mind and bring you to the present moment.
We often try to figure out all of problems in our mind. When you make space to move you open the channel to your intuition and creativity, and this is where you can see the problems you’re facing in a new light.
As I ask myself the question, How can I serve others during this time of need, I know that I have a gift for creating a safe space for you to be your true self, while sharing practical tools and spiritual guidance that helps you awaken to your inner peace, wisdom and creativity.
If you are feeing wrapped up by your fear and anxiety during this time, please know that you are not alone. If you are feeling content and ready for change, you are not alone in that either!
