“May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life.”

~ Apache Blessing

Spring is blooming in my part of the world!

It’s beautiful.  It’s refreshing.  It’s inspiring.  I simply love this time of year.

It feels good to open the windows, let the fresh air soar through the house, hear the birds and feel the new energy that’s prevalent everywhere.

One thing I love about Spring is that everything blooms in its own timing.

I love how the buds on the trees simply know when it’s time.  The flowers know when to emerge. The animals know that new beginnings are near.

So often, we get stuck trying to control every outcome.

It’s hard to see that sometimes, but we all do it.  We want our lives to be a “certain way” and we want everything to work out  “just so” and in “our forced timing” (which in our restless minds is now, now now!).

We stop trusting our true nature, and instead get stuck in this tug-of-war between wanting to be happy, spontaneous and free, yet living with self-doubt, control and distrust.  Have you noticed how unhappy this makes you feel?

When we try to control life at every turn, we do this because we’ve learned to distrust our true nature and we’ve become fearful of the unknown.

This need to control every outcome leads us to a life filled with habits that don’t serve us.  A habit is something we do without self-awareness.  We repeat a habit without thinking about it and many times we don’t even realize the habits that have a hold on our lives.

So often our habits have become automatic responses to our need to be in control.  Habits like worrying, striving to be perfect, looking for problems, not being content, feeling fearful, getting stuck in negative thinking or being judgmental  – these can become our natural responses to life’s challenges simply because we haven’t taken time to see our behavior as habitual.  It’s just what we turn to when we feel uncomfortable, out of control or scared.

When you awaken to the ways you try to control life, and you see the daily habits that are getting in your way, your entire world starts to change.

We all have habits.  We like to be in control.  It makes us feel like we have a handle on the things that are ever-changing. Some habits serve our lives, like a healthy morning ritual, and some habits drain and deplete us, like turning to alcohol, eating fast food or obsessive worrying.

The wonderful thing about the human spirit is it’s very resilient.  It’s never too late for new beginnings!

If you are curious to see how your need to be in control and your habits could be blocking you from feeling happier, then start by looking within.  Take some time for reflection and become aware of what your daily habits are.

Your Personal Reflection:

Notice how you feel when things are going well.  Notice what you do in moments of challenge.  Notice how you respond when things feel out of control.  Do you have a natural tendency to turn to worry, perfectionism, or self-doubt when things aren’t going your way? Can you see how the need to be in control is sucking the joy out of being more spontaneous and trusting your own nature?

It’s time to trust life.  It’s time to trust yourself.

Living with the deep need to be in control and to stay comfortable in your habits is limiting your ability to create a life more in harmony with your dreams.  You’re instead, letting fear get in the way.

Ready for new beginnings…

Spring reminds me that new beginnings are always possible.  I’m ready to open my arms and heart to new beginnings.

I’d like to practice throwing out the old habits that are congesting my life and draining my energy and be more open to letting things unfold as they need to. I’m willing to shine a light on my habits and to see where I try to control the outcomes too tightly, while I practice letting that place within me that simply knows, lead the way.

Let’s throw out control and limiting habits, and get prepared for new beginnings to unfold.  I’m ready.  Are you ready, too?

I am offering a small number of free discovery life coaching calls for March and April.

Working with a life coach can help you shine a light on the blind spots in your life, the places you try to control and the habits you’ve created that might be keeping you stuck.

Don’t let self-doubt keep you in a place of hesitation.  Life is too short to stay stuck.

You can’t force a flower to bloom before it’s ready, but you certainly can prepare the soil and create conditions that encourage healthy roots and positive growth.

Holistic life coaching helps you learn to trust your own nature again, nourishes your soul and gets you prepared for that beautiful growth waiting to happen.

If my words resonate with you, what are you waiting for?  Allow yourself a chance to be spontaneous and go for it.

Regardless if you decide to try life coaching, keep watching the patterns taking place in your life. Observe when you are too tightly trying to push and force things to happen.  Loosen the grip of control, shed your old habits and trust where life is leading you next.

Give yourself the gift of new beginnings…

HAPPY SPRING!
